In a daring experiment, the works of William Shakespeare come to life at Innovative Works through a creative collaboration with UNC Charlotte. Artistic Director Hope Muir paired choreographers with Charlotte-area Shakespeare experts: Choreographer Peter Chu with Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare Dr. Andrew Hartley and Stephanie Martinez with playwright, theatre and dance historian Dr. Lynee Conner.
“I am so excited to work with Peter Chu because I was inspired by his work with the Rite of Spring project. Peter has a beautiful energy and I love his movement.”
“I’m most looking forward to Innovative Works because of the collaboration with UNC Charlotte. As an artist, and especially as a dancer, we get stuck in a daily routine, and I think it will be refreshing to work alongside other artists outside the dance world.”
“I am really interested in how the UNC Charlotte Shakespeare collaboration is going to come together. The thought of bringing in new elements to a performance by Charlotte Ballet is exciting and daring.”
“I think the audience with be very excited for Innovative Works. Shakespeare is such an iconic artist, and to be able to create an experiment that resembles his work is something that audiences would be very intrigued in.”
