Meet 7 Most Incredible Artists

The Choreographer – Javier de Frutos

1Winner of the 2017 Chita Rivera Award for Best Choreography in Film (Theatrical), Javier has worked in dance, theater, film and visual arts and received nominations in all dance categories in the Olivier Awards – one of only three artists in history to do so. He had an international performance career as a solo artist and has choreographed for companies all around the world, including Pilobolus, Rotterdam Dance Group, Rambert Dance Company, The Royal New Zealand Ballet and The Royal Ballet. This January, he joins the McColl Center’s Artists in Residence program as the first choreographer to be appointed.

The Scenic Designer – Katrina Lindsay

2008 Tony Award winning designer, Katrina Lindsay now regularly designs sets and costumes for the National Theatre. Her work spans from set and costume design in theatre, opera, dance and television. She is also the costume designer for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre in London, which is being transferred to Broadway this spring.

Javier: “I first worked with Katrina in the West End and currently touring version of Cabaret back in 2006. She is not only coming back to redesign her work for The Most Incredible Thing for Charlotte Ballet, but also back to Broadway with her designs for Harry Potter next spring!

The Lighting Designer – Lucy Carter

Lucy Carter is an internationally acclaimed, multi-award winning Lighting Designer working across theatre, opera, dance and ballet. Her productions have won numerous awards and she is a two-time winner of the prestigious Knight of Illumination Award for Woolf Works and Chroma at The Royal Ballet, London.

Javier: “Lucy’s lighting designs are considered a luxury brand around the World. Her show stopping lighting is essential to the story and I’m very fortunate to have her on board again after admiring her work for so many years.”

4

The Film Maker & Animatior – Tal Rosner

Video designer and director Tal Rosner works closely with musicians and theatre makers, combining multiple layers of sound and visuals to create a new language of classical/contemporary video installations and live performances.

Javier: “Tal’s video design is one of the stars of the show, which culminates on a 23 minute tour de force during the presentation of The Clock at the end of act 1. A true artist and one hell of a collaborator!

The Sound Designer – Paul Arditti

Paul is an associate director of the National Theatre and a founding member of the Association Of Sound Designers in the UK. Awards include: Olivier Award, Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for Billy Elliot The Musical; Olivier Award for St Joan; Evening Standard award for Festen; Tony nominations for Mary Stuart (Donmar & Broadway) and One Man Two Guvnors (NT, West End & Broadway).

Javier: “I knew from the very beginning that I wanted Paul to marry the show’s theatrical ambitions and the modern and visionary score from Pet Shop Boys. Paul’s design is not only essential but so integrated and seamless that the show simply does not exist without it.”
