17/18 Season: Meet our new company dancers

Two new company dancers were added to Charlotte Ballet for the 2017/2018 Season! Get to know them, some of their favorite things and why they are so excited to be part of the Charlotte Ballet family.

About Colby

Hometown: Fargo, ND

Started dancing at age: 15

Favorite music: Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks

Never misses an episode of: Game of Thrones

Favorite thing to do on a day off: Go hiking in the mountains

Fun fact: I’m an avid Rollerblader. Its my favorite way to commute.

Ballet Favorites

Favorite role performedThe Blue Man in Sweet and Lucky with Third Rail Projects and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts

Favorite choreographer: Jiri Kylian

I dance becauseit’s challenging, rewarding and a beautiful way to make art.

Why are you excited about joining Charlotte Ballet?

“I’m really excited about all of the contemporary repertoire I will get to learn. I’m thrilled to join the company for Hope’s inaugural year, and to join this amazing company of artists.”

About Anson

Hometown: Myrtle Beach, SC

Started dancing at age: 5

Favorite movie: Robert Zemeckis’ Death Becomes Her is one of my all-time favorites. I am also a big fan of Quentin Tarantino’s films.

Favorite thing to do on a day off: Anything that involves spending time with friends and family.

If I weren’t dancing I’d be: A teacher- I’m very passionate about teaching, particularly early childhood education.

Ballet Favorites

Favorite ballet: A very close three-way tie between Marius Petipa’s Paquita, Michel Fokine’s Petrushka and George Balanchine’s Apollo.

Favorite choreographer: Merce Cunningham, without a doubt.

I dance because: I believe it is one of the purest, limitless and beautiful forms of communication.

Why are you excited about joining Charlotte Ballet?

“I am looking forward to joining this select group of dancers with the hopes of being inspired to feed and share my own passion for dancing. I am most excited to join Charlotte Ballet for the opportunity to perform a variety of repertoire ranging from ballet classics, to cutting edge contemporary, and new works.”
