The Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance: What to do Uptown

The Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance is a 200-seat theater located in uptown Charlotte at 701 N. TRYON STREET. Home to our company and Academy, we know the area around this theater like the back of our hand! Spend the evening in Uptown and pair the ballet with one of our favorite local spots.

Dinner, Drinks and Desserts

1. Queen City Grounds

Queen City Grounds is a modern, yet rustic cafe right down the block from the Center for Dance on the corner of North Church and W 10th Street. Their goal is to bring the best of what local markets have to offer to the Queen City. Besides their delicious coffee (roasted in-house!), they also offer an exciting food menu. In a rush to get to the show? You can also order online and have it ready when you arrive!

2. Duckworth’s Grill and Taphouse and The Cellar at Duckworth’s

Opening its first restaurant in 2004 – Duckworth’s Uptown is located at 330 North Tryon St. Check out their extensive beer list or take a look at their menu. Below the restaurant is an underground space – The Cellar at Duckworth’s – built in 1912. Its brick walls, exposed ceiling beams and staff dressed from the era emanate a classic speakeasy vibe. Ready to try one of their signature cocktails? Go ahead and book your table!

3. Rock Bottom

This restaurant and brewery is located at 401 N. Tryon St. – only a 5 minute walk from the Center fror Dance. All their beer is made on-site, crafted by personal brewers. This isn’t just bar food, though – check out their menu and see for yourself.

4. ALEXANDER MICHAEL’S

Turn visiting the ballet into the most perfect date night – just like one of our favorite food bloggers, Chrissie of Off the Beaten Path: “Al Mike’s cozy, comfortable atmosphere makes me feel relaxed and at home, like an old, historic general store turned neighborhood watering hole with low ceilings, low lighting, friendly servers, beer on tap and delicious food is where I belong. We shared DC’s Potato Wedges (heaven definitely is French fries covered with cheese and topped with bacon, tomatoes, Cajun seasoning & sour cream) and hot wings, and washed everything down with a Birdsong Lazy Bird Brown and OMB Copper.”

5. Waterbean Coffee

Waterbean Coffee – at 616 N Tryon St – is directly across the street from our building! This third Waterbean location opened its Uptown cafe in January 2017. Grab one of their many specialty coffees before a matinee, or go after the show for some desserts.
