Adult Drop-In Classes

Ages 14+

The Adult Drop-In Classes include a variety of dance and dance-based fitness classes. Adult Drop-In classes are ideal for beginners, former dancers wanting to return to their passion and those looking to use dance-based fitness as a way to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Drop-in students are welcome! No prior registration required.

Adult Tap Fundamentals
This class explores the basic technique
and fundamentals of tap dance. This class
is recommended for first time tap dancers.

Adult Beginning Tap
This class will continue to build on learned
skills, adding more complex combinations
and more complex technique.  This class is
recommended for tappers with at least one
year experience

This class expands on beginning tap with more
complexity in rhythm, movement and movement
sequencing. Prior tap experience needed.

Power Dance
Getting it all done has never been such fun with
this all inclusive work out class. Using techniques
found in body sculpting, power dance and yoga,
this class will focus on reshaping the muscles,
strengthening cardio vascular fitness and increasing
flexibility.

Purchase of a dance card, or specific class does not guarantee parking. Charlotte Ballet reserves the right to modify the schedule or change a class location as necessary.

HOW TO JOIN

DROP-IN
to any Adult Drop-In class for the single class price of $16 ($10 with valid college student ID).
DANCE CARDS offer flexibility and savings: $60 for a five-class pass, $110 for a ten-class pass, $240 for a 20 class pass.  Dance Cards are valid for all Adult Drop-In classes for on year from purchase date.  Dance Cards may be purchased at the door year-round and soon on our Charlotte Ballet portal.

College students and Seniors must show a valid ID when setting up their account to be eligible for the discounted College and Senior rate. ID can be shown at the front desk or emailed to the administrator.

FAQs

Who will be teaching the class?

Charlotte Ballet Academy is the only school in the state affiliated with a nationally renowned, professional ballet company. Our faculty is top notch! The instructors are former professional dancers or have received degrees from prestigious college dance programs.

I have a child that is younger than 13 that wants to take a class. Are there classes for children?

Yes, the Academy offers classes for students ages 3-Adult. click here for more information.

What is the dress code for Open Division classes?

Any comfortable workout attire is acceptable in the Open Division. There is no official dress code for these classes. You will need to utilize proper footwear. Ballet slippers are required for ballet classes – pink, black or white, leather or canvas. Modern classes are danced barefoot.  Tap shoes are required for tap classes, jazz shoes in any style for Jazz and Power Dance. Hip Hop students can wear clean street sneakers or jazz sneakers. Morris Costumes, 4300 Monroe Road is recommended for dancewear and shoes.

Where should I park for class?

Free parking is available in the gravel lot located behind the Center for Dance, 701 North Tryon Street (corner of Tryon and 10th streets). Turn down 10th Street and then enter the gate for the McColl Center for Visual Art, located on the right just beyond our building. Do not park on the pavement but exit the back left corner and proceed to the gravel area.  Enter the Center for Dance on 10th Street.

Tap classes are held at Spirit Square, 345 North College Street, at the corner of College and 7th Street. Spirit Square has a parking lot at the 7th Street entrance but fees are charged.  Free street parking is available in the area after 6 PM.  Paid parking is also available in the 7th Street Station.

Where should I go when I arrive for class?

Open Division classes at the Center for Dance are generally held on the second floor. All students must sign in at the lobby reception desk for each class attended. The receptionist on duty can direct you to the correct studio. Restrooms are available on both floors for changing if necessary. Students should take their possessions into the studio.

Tap students will sign in with the teacher at Spirit Square. Classes are held on the third floor in Studio A.
