Become part of the ballet with David Ingram’s latest work! Ingram is choreographing on Charlotte Ballet company members for our 20th year of Innovative Works, but he wants more dancers! Ingram’s inspiration for his work is globalization and unity. In addition to Charlotte Ballet company members, Ingram is planning this event to teach participants a short choreographic phrase, which will then be projected on stage with the live dancers. Participants will get the chance to be “on stage” with the company during Innovative Works!

Masterclass: 9:30-10:30AM
Drop-in hours: 11:30-3:00PM
Participation is free!

What will the schedule be like and when should I plan to be there?

The day begins with a masterclass with David Ingram from 9:30-10:30AM. Attendance to the master class is not required to participate in the filming process. There will be drop-in hours between 11:30-3:00PM for participants to register. The last drop-in time is at 3:00PM. Once you arrive, you will learn the choreography in groups and then move to the filming room to be recorded! The process of registering, learning the choreography, and being filmed should take about an hour. If you are attending the masterclass in the morning, come ready to dance at 9:30AM. Otherwise, come to any of our drop-in hours between 11:30-3:00PM.

What will the video be used for?

The filming will be used as an overlay on the set to combine film images and live dancers. Ingram’s vision is to project everyday people onto different surfaces that will add new exaggerations of the original video!

How easy it is for non-dancers?

Everyone is encouraged to join, dancer or non-dancer! The choreography can be as easy or as difficult as the participant wishes to make it. Non-dancers are more than welcome! People with physical limitations are also welcome to participate and we will adapt to anyone’s range of ability that wants to be involved. The more dancers the better!

What style of dance is the choreography?

The style of dance will be very contemporary and modern. Understanding of a formal technique is not required!

What is the age requirement?

Dancer 14+ are welcome to take the master class and dancers 7+ can participate in the filming process.

Will I be able to see the show?

The choreography will be displayed on stage during Innovative Works. Join us at the Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance January 27-February 18, 2017! Tickets start at only $25!

Will I be on video?

Though our hope is to include everyone, there may be a chance that the section of video you are in may be cut during the final editing process. Every piece of film taken this day will not make it into the finished product, but we hope you come to join us in the experience!

Can I bring friends?

Yes! Everyone is welcome to participate, dancer or non-dancer. Come spend the day dancing with all your friends. By attending, you will be entered to win a free pair of tickets to Innovative Works!
